Saw two life birds for me on Chestnut hill. The first was across from the Chestnut Pavillion. Saw a yellowy-olive bird with a blue-gray head and white spectacles. I didn't have my book at the time, but I knew it was some kind of vireo. When I looked it up in the book at home, it turned out to be a blue-headed vireo. Yay!

The second bird I noticed while giving my puppy a rest on the little bridge before the Lanterman Falls observation area. I noticed a bird fly into a hemlock tree. It was yellow on its back and bluish black on the wings and sides. I noticed its entire chin, neck, and upper half of its breast was solid black, with black spots along the side of the belly. I knew it was a warbler of some kind, and when I looked it up in my book it was a black-throated green. Yay, life bird number two! I've often heard these birds, but have never been lucky enough to get a look through my binoculars.

My red-shouldered hawk is still sitting low on her nest, even after all the windy, severe weather, so that was also good news.

The only bad news was that, while sitting with my puppy and looking through my binocs I heard a strange sound....THUNDER! It was sunny when we started our walk, now the sky was black! We high-tailed it to the covered bridge (as quick as a miniature wiener dog puppy can go) and waited for the rain to come. Luckily, my husband came first in his truck to pick us up; crisis averted:)
