Highlights of a Wednesday dusk visit to Sandy Ridge:

At least 30 great egrets, all roosting by the time I left
  Sandhill crane calling
  Virginia rail calling ("kadick")
One common nighthawk, calling as it apparently left its daytime roost
At least five marsh wrens singing
Prothonotary warbler which looked like it was scouting for a nest hole
Female rose-breasted grosbeak collecting fibers from a poison ivy vine

  Craig Caldwell, Westlake
