Jerry Talkington took some excellent photos of the Piping Plover that
appeared at Headland Dunes the last two days.  These photos were then
forwarded to Jim McCarty, then to me, and then to Erin Roche, who is a
graduate student at the University of Minnesota.  She works with Dr.
Francie Cuthbert, a researcher who studies Piping Plovers in the Great
Lakes, particularly in Michigan.

Thanks to the great photos showing the bands, here is what Erin found out:

I am reading the band combination as metal band over light green (on the
right leg).  This is a bird that hatched at the Platte River, Sleeping
Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, MI in either 2005 or 2006 (I can't be
sure without reading the USFWS number).

If you look up Sleeping Bear Dunes, MI on google maps, you will see that
this is on the west side of the lower peninsula, just west of Traverse
City.
