Yesterday, I posted news of the failure of the well publicized eagle nest at
the Old Dutch Tavern in Sandusky.
A few minutes ago, as I went out to pick asparagus, a large shadow passed
over me. I looked up to see a young eagle being harassed by a blackbird. The
eagle circled to land in one of my cottonwoods and I was surprised to see
that it landed by a second young eagle. I looked further up the tree and saw a
perched adult. After much calling and some moving from branch to branch, the
young eagles flew off and the adult followed shortly after. It was then I
noticed a second adult almost hidden on the back side of the same tree.
What a great experience to have an entire eagle family visit my yard! I
live within a few miles of the McCartney Road eagle nest, which is just about
impossible to observe. Perhaps that is where these birds hatched.
