I had to have some work done on my car this morning along Georgesville Rd., so afterwards I took the time to visit a favorite nearby birding spot that I haven't been to in a while, the Battelle--Darby Metropark. I took a walk on the Dyer Mill Trail. The Ancient Trail at the Indian Ridge area might have been more productive at this time of year, but the Dyer Mill Trail is more secluded, especially on a weekend. It was very birdy, but there were no concentrations of migrants to speak of anywhere. B-D is a huge park and covers a long stretch of both Darby creeks. With so much habitat available, migrants were spread out far and wide. Most of the birds I came across today (including the parulas) were probably territorial residents. Here are some of the birds I counted on my walk on the Dyer Mill Trail at mid-day :

1 E Wood-Pewee
1 Acadian Flycatcher
6 Great Crested Flycatchers
1 E Kingbird
5 White-eyed Vireos
4 Yellow-thr Vireos
1 Blue-headed Vireo
2 Warbling Vireos
8 Red-eyed Vireos
10 House Wrens
Blue-gray Gnatcatchers (many)
1 Veery
4 Wood Thrushes
8 Gray Catbirds
3 Nashville Warblers
5 N Parulas
11 Yellow Warblers
1 Chestnut-sided Warbler
1 Magnolia Warbler
5 Yellow-rumped Warblers
1 Black-thr Green Warbler
2 Blackburnian Warblers
1 Yellow-thr Warbler
1 N Waterthrush
14 Common Yellowthroats
2 Hooded Warblers
5 Scarlet Tanagers
1 Grasshopper Sparrow
1 Lincoln's Sparrow
2 Rose-br Gosbeaks
8 Indigo Buntings
13 Baltimore Orioles
and all the expected regulars
