Northeast-east winds have brought the northward migration to a trickle the past few days along Ohio's north coast. Species continue to make their appearance but volume has not been exceptional since the "First wave" hit on 24 April. However, quality has made up for the recent quantity at Black Swamp Bird Observatory's main banding station. More Louisiana Waterthrushs have been banded this spring then any spring since daily banding started in 1989 and Marsh Wrens have equaled its highest.

But this past Saturday the bird of the spring found our nets as the first Loggerhead Shrike ever encountered at the banding station as captured. Pictures will soon be posted on the BSBO website at www.bsbobird.org. Visit to see how the migration is progressing and in the mean time find a way to get out of work this Wednesday as weather forecast looks like the "Big Wave" should begin then.
