Hi Folks -

On a last minute evening 'lust' for this morning's Piping Plovers, I hit
Headlands Beach State Park this evening from 6 pm till 7:20 pm...hoping on
the minute chance that one of the buggers had stuck around/returned to the
beach to roost in the evening.

I was met with intermittent downpours, fantastic lightning shows, a
phenomenal wall cloud, an incredible black 'front' of looming storms on the
horizon, and ultimately, no Piping Plover. I ran (yes, ran) the extent of
the beach to the lighthouse and back to the parking lot before incoming doom
hit Headlands and Fairport Harbor with quite some force.

During a break in the storm I was treated to a grand barrage of
White-throated Sparrows, with some warblers, kinglets, and others in the
mix. Here's the run-down on my very quick run-down:

Highlights:

HBSP:
Vesper Sparrow - 2 (dunes)
Swamp Sparrow - 2
White-throated Sparrow - 250 (8 of which took refuge under my car)
White-crowned Sparrow - 11
Fox Sparrow - 1
Song Sparrow -15
Chipping Sparrow - 3
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 30
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 8
Black-and-White Warbler - 2
Hermit Thrush - 8
Brown Thrasher - 2
Gray Catbird - 2
Northern Flicker - 25

OTHER:
Great Egret - 1
Double-crested Cormorant - 15
American Coot - 2
Caspian Tern - 3

On a last minute hope, I hit Fairport Harbor. Good numbers of swallows were
seen over the beach, hillside, and just in town. Birds were landing on
wires, tree branches, and houses.

Barn Swallow - 30
Tree Swallow - 45
Northern Rough-winged Swallow - 50
Purple Martin - 2

Chimney Swift - 10

Cheers
Jen
