Hi All-

I was out kayaking Sunday, working on the Greater Akron Audubon Society summer bird census. I was on Turkeyfoot Lake (part of the Portage Lakes system) south of Akron when I thought I heard a Green Heron clucking. I had just seen a Green Heron fly over. I went to check out the clucking and saw a bird behind some cattails. Had the right general shape and size of a Green Heron, but when it stepped out--KING RAIL!!!! I knew I had a rail--but I wasn't positive that it was a King Rail. I got some good photos that I sent to Jim McCormac to confirm that it was a King Rail. I'll post those photos tomorrow on the forum.

The area where I found the rail is only accessible by boat. It's a marshy area west of the boat ramp area at Turkeyfoot State Park. I checked back at the marsh later in the day and was unable to relocate the bird. I'm going to try again Wednesday.

  Good birding-
