After my disappointment at the mowing of Huffman Prairie last week, it
was nice to find some really good birds today at John Bryan State Park.
Walking the loop trail near the astronomical observatory, we were
never out of earshot of Kentucky Warblers, including good visuals of a
very agitated female. Ovenbirds were numerous on that trail as well,
and there was a singing White Eyed Vireo there also. We found Brown
Creepers in the lower picnic area and down along the river. Hooded
Warblers and Louisiana Waterthrushes were everywhere along the river.
Lots more of the normal birds you'd expect in there, like Yellow Billed
Cuckoos, Wood Thrushes, Great Crested Flycatchers, Scarlet Tanagers,
etc. My brother Tim will undoubtedly post the whole trip report here
when he's finished tallying the atlas data for the day. This is a
great birding spot, especially early morning on a weekday when the park
is quiet.

Good Birding
