Greetings---today 6/27, the first southbound migrants of the "fall" were found at Conneaut: lesser yellowlegs, 2 least sandpipers, Caspian tern, and 2 Forster's terns. Also there were 3 imm. bald eagles, 4 Bonaparte's gulls, a juv. ring-billed gull, willow flycatcher, purple martins, bank swallows, 4 marsh wrens, and brown thrasher. The "road" out to the outer spit has been graded, and it's now easy to drive out there. Too easy, actually, as ~ 15 vehicles were present by late morning. Very early in the morning I took a drive around Dorset Twp. (also in Ashtabula Co.) and detected: wild turkeys, broad-winged hawk, Am. kestrel, least flycatcher, yellow-throated vireo, purple martins, e. bluebirds, veery, blue-winged warblers, ovenbirds, Am. redstarts, scarlet tanager, indigo buntings, savannah sparrows, e. meadowlarks, plus the usual suspects. Water levels at Orwell marsh are quite low, and shorebirds should show up there soon. Later, Craig
