Dave Hershey of Tiffin and I just returned from a quick trip to Adams
County. Along the way we attempted the Eurasian Collared Dove in Fort
Jefferson, Darke County. We were there from 4:15 PM to after 5:00 and had
no luck. I thought I heard the bird once but could not locate it. We left
and headed south to I-70. In the town of West Manchester, Preble County on
SR 127 we found, at least, three Eurasian Collared-Doves. They were sitting
on the wires that run behind the downtown buildings to the east. There were
three sitting on wires at one time and may have been more in the area. We
observed courtship and copulation with one pair. The best site for the
birds appears to be the wires and poles behind Post Office on Scott Street.
But we also observed the birds fly back into the residential areas at times.
Both of us were able to get good photos of at least one of the birds.

In Adams County we had 14+ Chuck-will's-widows, 7+ Blue Grosbeak, and 13
species of warblers. We also observed the Wood County Western Meadowlark on
the way. From Adams County we traveled to Logan for the Mississippi Kite
this morning (6/27/2007). At 12:30 PM, as we drove into the Brass Ring Golf
Course, the kite was soaring over the parking lot with a Cooper's Hawk and a
Board-winged Hawk. What luck!

On a down note, we traveled over 600 miles in Ohio in the last 28 hours and
did not see a Green Heron.
