Thanks to the great directions of Sandy Brown I was able to find the
King Rail in ten minutes, the time it took me to paddle from the boat
ramp to the area she described so well, I paddle very slow. ( Portage
Lakes State Park, off Rt 93 (and 619) in Green Ohio; go right from
boat launch along the shore. Where the shore turns south, there is a
marshy area around a small area of land that protrudes. I had GOOD
looks at the rail in both marshy areas. It did not seem too bothered
by my kayak and I was able to watch it forage for food, take a bath,
preen in feathers and open them to dry. I have pictures from all
angles. Email me off list if you want a look. The coloring was
beautiful!

Also saw Baltimore Orioles, Northern Rough wing Swallows, Great Blue
Herons, Belted Kingfishers, Mallards and Canada Geese. A beautfiul lake
with only a few pontoons and fishing boats. I have seen a Black
Crowned Night Heron, but not this year yet.

I think you need to see this bird by canoe or kayak.
