About one month ago, a mundane shopping trip yielded exciting results when I noticed Cliff Swallows daubing mud on a storefront along the busy commercial corridor of St. Rt. 422 in Niles. Since then, I've made my observations brief in order to avoid drawing too much attention to the birds. Store owners and patrons aren't always amicable toward these activities, and I didn't want the nests to "disappear." The small colony of four nests currently has one pair feeding young.
