I occasionally have Downy Woodpeckers come to the nectar feeders that hang
at my kitchen window.

The feeders (saucer-shaped oriole and hummingbird feeders from Wild Birds
Unlimited) hang by a long metal hooks. The woodpecker lands on the hook, then
slides down to the feeder like a firefighter on a pole. The feeders are only
inches from my kitchen window so as they feed, I am able to watch their long
tongues through the clear plastic.
