Sorry about the late report. Bill Bosstic and I made a quick trip to
Circleville on Wednesday, May 30. Coming back we swung by Charlie's
Pond. The weather was very hot and the fields were very dry. The slough
on the east side of the road was full of water, but not much else. We
saw a Great Blue Heron flying away. We saw Black Saddlebags, Green
Darner, and Whitetail Skimmer flitting over the water. A few Green Frogs
were "chugging" in the water. There were about ten Killdeers flying
around over the road and calling continuously. We looked for young, but
didn't see any. The marsh on the west side of the road was almost
completely covered with plants with very little water showing. Nothing
of interest.

The best sighting of the was at least four singing Dickcissels. In two
place we heard them singing from opposite sides of the road. Looks like
a good possibility of breeding there. There are several weedy fields
that do not seem to have been cut recently.

Good birding,

Joe McMahon
