Hello Everyone,

A brief update on the South Columbus Lark Sparrow spot that Phillip North posted on earlier...

Paul Rodewald and I went back to this site this morning to try and get some observations of the Lark Sparrow(s). We didn't have much luck, and we had only had a brief glimpse of a flyby bird that could have been a LASP. We did however turn up a singing male BLUE GROSBEAK that was later joined by a female. The female was foraging and repeatedly brought two inch long slugs to a small weedy patch. We tracked her down and discovered at least one fledgling Blue Grosbeak...a rather nice consolation to striking out on the Lark Sparrow (review Troy Shively's recent post on finding Blue Grosbeaks at gravel pits).

Honestly, this area isn't much to look at. It's behind a large shopping center and I probably would have never considered it as having much birding potential. If anyone has any areas like this in your blocks, you may want to give it a bit of attention.

Good birding!

Aaron Boone
