This afternoon Jim Fry and I checked the mudflats at Area M and the
northeast shoreline for shorebird activity. The activity was only moderate at Area M.
From the boardwalk we observed Killdeer, Semipalmated Plover, Lesser
Yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least
Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Stilt Sandpiper.

At the mudflats along the east shoreline the activity was better with many
individuals present. Species observed there included Killdeer, Semipalmated
Plover, Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpiper, Spotted
Sandpiper, Semiplmated Sandpiper, Western Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper and Pectoral
Sandpiper.

Whereas Area M had less than 100 individuals in total, the east shore
mudflats had hundreds of birds. As August begins activity should improve in both
numbers of individuals and species.
