This AM my son, Brian and I decided to take a short break from our family reunion and check out the Hoover boardwalk. There were several good-sized mudflats and they had a small number of shorebirds. We saw:

5 Spotted Sandpipers
4 Solitary Sandpipers
3 Least Sandpipers
1 Semipalmated Sandpiper
12 or more Killdeer
1 Greater Yellowlegs
1 Lesser Yellowlegs
6 Green Heron
1 Great Blue Heron
The special treat was seeing one Osprey on the nest and both Osprey harrassing
a Great Blue Heron. It may be that the Heron got too close to the Osprey nest for they
really acted like they meant business. When the Heron finally was able to land in the water one of the Ospreys dive-bombed it before flying away. It was quite a sighting.

We also wenr to the Lowe's Wetlands where we saw only two Great Egrets since the area was taken over by several men with very noisy ATVs.

Summer Cheers, Larry Gara, Wilmington
