I spent several hours Saturday at a privately owned gravel pit in
Miami County just north of Troy in block 55D6CW. The primary
objective was visiting with grandparents and teaching my 3 yr. old
son to fish but I managed to atlas actively for a few minutes. Those
minutes paid off quickly with the discovery of an adult Prothonotary
Warbler feeding two fuzzy headed and vocal fledglings. As I
repositioned myself opposite the tree line for a better view, I found
a fledgling cowbird begging. A Prothonotary soon was feeding it as
well. A nearby snag along the waters edge had several cavities.

I also "spotted" a vocal, teetering Spotted Sandpiper and a pair of
Belted Kingfishers.

I'm hoping to return this weekend and focus more time on atlasing as
well as odes... it was bustling with damselflies and I got great
looks at a Halloween Pennant dragonfly.
