Witha spare hour after work this afternoon, I popped out to 3-Creeks MetroPark in south Columbus to check on the condition of its potential shorebird ponds. The large borrow pit along the bikepath still had high water in it, which made it less appealing to shorebirds, but still appealing to herons, egrets, and ducks. Highlight here was 14 Great Egrets. The Smith Farm Pond (southeast of the closed Smith Farm parking area) had lower water levels and more shorebirds, including 24 Kildeer, 1 L. Yellowlegs, 5 Solitary Spr, 1 Spotted Spr, and 3 Short-billed Dowitchers. Eventually the borrow pit should be better than this, but I can't predict when in the face of the storms expected over the next few days.
