This morning there was excellent shorebird habitat at the end of Mound Road. The mudflats are surrounded by very low level water and I saw the following:

7 Solitary Sandpipers
2 Spotted Sandpipers
2 Pectoral Sandpipers
1 Least Sandpiper
1 Semipalmated Plover (always a treat)
18 Killdeer

While some of these birds are fairly close others require a scope to ID. Mound Road is off St.Rt 380 at the fire station. When you turn on Mound there is a No Outlet sign and further along one reads Road Closed. Ignore the latter and continue for a short distance until you see a parking lot on the right. Park there and walk straight ahead a very short distance and you will see the mudflats.

Hot Summer Cheers. Larry Gara, Wilmington
