Greetings---Plenty of good birds today in the NE corner of Ohio. Conneaut & Mosquito L. both have excellent habitat for shorebirds, dabbling ducks, herons/egrets, terns, etc. The two sites combined had 17 species of shorebirds; most are now juvs. Mosquito has hundreds of shorebirds and ducks, but most are at scope range. There are also areas which cannot be viewed or are too distant to make any positive IDs. So there are undoubtably many more birds there than meets the eye. Patience and careful study should turn up more goodies there. As for Conneaut, point-blank views and daily turnover are the norm. Morning is definitely the best time, with more activity and fewer people causing disturbances. So here are the highlights...at Conneaut: 3 Am. wigeon, green-winged teal, greater scaup (hen), hooded merganser, green herons, 4 imm. bald eagles, ruddy turnstone, sanderlings, western sandpiper, 2 Baird's sandpipers, Bonaparte's gulls, Caspian terns, common tern,
Forster's terns, belted kingfisher, ruby-throated hummingbirds, purple martins & 4 other swallow species, migrant yellow warblers, Baltimore oriole. At Mosquito: many wood ducks, n. shoveler, Am. black duck, 12 great egrets, green herons, 2 ospreys, 3 bald eagles, Cooper's hawk, red-shouldered hawk, 15 hooded mergs, 60 lesser yellowlegs, 2 marbled godwits, ruddy turnstone, red knot, stilt sandpipers, short-billed dowitchers, Caspian and Forster's terns, belted kingfisher, purple martins, and a calling great crested flycatcher. No luck finding a little gull at either spot today. Later, Craig
