Just a few weeks ago, our family was on vacation in the Upper
Peninsula of Michigan. While out for a boat ride, a juv. Ring-billed
Gull, loafing on the water, was facing our boat about 100 feet away
and suddenly took flight. We all looked up to see an adult Bald Eagle
dropping from the sky, behind and above the gull, with talons
outstretched. The gull easily evaded the eagle. It was a fantastic
sight.

Given its approach from behind, we felt the gull was the likely
target but could not have ruled out a nearby fish. When the gull took
flight, the eagle pulled out of its descent however.
