N. Marginal Drive, Burke Lakefront Airport, Cleveland
Observer: Paula Lozano
Turkey Vulture - 2, in air at west end of Burke
Northern Harrier - 1, in air north of runways
Red-tailed Hawk - 1, perched on tallest tower north of runways
American Kestrel - 6, perched on structures & on the ground/runways, in
air, and eating prey
Peregrine Falcon - 1, perched on lower structure north of runways & in air
Killdeer - 56, on ground west of Gate 12
Caspian Tern - 1, in air; flight direction - E to W
Barn Swallows - a constant stream; flight direction - E to W
Eastern Meadowlark - 2, in grass north of Gate 12
All of the above were seen from Aviation High School west to the exit to S.
Marginal Drive. From that spot, a wet area was visible north of the fence,
with a group of approximately 40 shorebirds - mostly at its west end. While
I was there a helicopter landed and a small jet departed, putting them into
the air and giving me two chances to count them and identify most as
dowitchers and Greater Yellowlegs.
