Today I birded the East Shore and the Boardwalk at Hoover Reservoir,
Delaware County. Shortly after arriving on the East Shore I ran into a
birder, Matt, whose last name I cannot remember. (My apologies, Matt). He
quickly pointed out an immature Little Blue Heron, which was some distance
away. We attempted to walk around an inlet, then out on a peninsula to get
closer to the bird, but by the time we got there it had left. We continued
up the East Shore to the bridge but did not relocate it in that area. We saw
the birds which have been previously reported in that area, including
Killdeer, Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs, Pectoral Sandpiper, Spotted
Sandpiper, Solitary Sandpiper and Caspian Tern. Matt finally located the
Willet which has been present for a few days. There were several Cedar
Waxwings in the trees near the mudflats.

We proceeded to the Boardwalk in Area N, and found Least, Semipalmated and
Pectoral Sandpipers, Killdeer, a Semipalmated Plover, and finally relocated
the Little Blue Heron on a small island between the Boardwalk and the Osprey
platform.

Good Birding,

Gene Stauffer
