I was at Conneaut harbor this morning (8/12) (I should have been home watching hummingbirds). Things were somewhat slow. There was a single BAIRD'S SANDPIPER on the mudflat when I first arrived a little before 8:00 am. It flew off almost immediately after a northern harrier flew over. About 20 minutes later 2 WILLETS flew by. They flew to the west without even showing the slightest inclination of stopping. After that there were a several semipalmated plovers, killdeer, lesser yellowlegs, least sandpipers and semipalmated sandpipers and a single black-bellied plover and pectoral sandpiper. Most of the birds did not stay long. I also had 2 northern harriers that hung around the mudflat area a while and also 2 bald eagles, 1 osprey, 1 peregrine falcon, and a Cooper's hawk. Needless to say the shorebirds were spooking constantly. Add a couple loose dogs and you don't have many shorebirds lingering. There was also a single LITTLE GULL and about a dozen Bonaparte's gulls. the only other bird of note was a greater scaup. Some neat birds to see, but not a lot of photographic opportunities.
