There was no hummingbird activity this morning before I left for work. When I got home I sat out front and watched for the adult male rufous hummingbird seen yesterday. Unfortunately there is a male ruby-throated hummingbird that has decided to rule the feeders on the south side of my house. I saw the male rufous come in only to be immediately chased away. I never did see it again. A little after 7:00 I decided to come in and eat and check out the feeder on the south side of my house. Much to my surprise the was a second rufous hummingbird. This bird appears to be a female. The amazing thing about this bird is that it is guarding my back feeder! It chased away all other hummers and almost always perched in a shrub next to the feeder. I was able to get numerous photos of this bird.

If anyone is interested in trying for either bird, I live at Lakeshore Reservation in North Perry. Directions can be found at:

-or you can Mapquest my address below.

You can park in the east lot and walk west and walk down my driveway back to my house. The back feeder is on the northwest end of the house and the other feeders are on the south side. Please do not approach too close to the feeders. Right now the female the female typically sits at the top of the small tree immediately west of the feeder at the northwest corner. At this point it does not tolerate close approach.

I'll try and post some photos tomorrow.
