I've received a few helpful comments following my request for
information about shorebird habitat at Big Island Wildlife Area and
Pickerington Ponds Metropark. The gist of the remarks is that
Pickerington Ponds has good-looking mudflats, but has yet to
accumulate many shorebirds, while Big Island has too much water and
too much vegetation.

Killdeer Plains does have some mudflats and some shorebirds. Hoover
Reservoir has good-looking habitat, but even there, shorebird numbers
are still somewhat limited.

I have also heard a rumor that one of the impoundments on the walking
trail at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge has been drawn down for
shorebirds. Has anyone been there?

Many thanks to all who responded.

Happy birding,

Paul Gardner
