I made a brief stop at Whittier Park this afternoon and found 21 Great Egrets roaming the shallows upstream from the dam. Not much else noteworthy was around, and the mudlfats here are very skimpy. I did have a Cooper's Hawk buzz a bunch of Mourning doves up around the new wetlands further north along Whittier Road. They're very overgrown with weeds right now, although 2 of them still have some water.

I returned home to an Email from Scott Felker, the naturalist at Pick Ponds, noting that an American Avocet had shown up on Ellis Pond today. This is the older pond south of Wright Road, which has developed a good bit of mudflats, especially on its eastern end. If this is like Avocets that have stoipped at Pick Ponds in recent years, it should stay for at least a few days.
