Next Sunday afternoon, Back to the Wild Wildlife Rehabilitation and Nature
Education Center will be having an open house. Located in Castalia, just s
outhwest of Sandusky, BTTW could be a great stop on the way home for many of you
attending Sunday Fall Warbler Symposium field trips. If you have never
visited this facility, you don't know what you are missing. If you have been
there before, come see what's new.

The latest addition is a non-releasable Golden Eagle. Visitors now have the
opportunity to view Golden and Bald Eagles side by side. BTTW has also
recently constructed a waterfowl habitat enclosure which houses recovering birds
and non-releasable program birds including herons, ducks, and gulls. Most of
the raptors found in Ohio are displayed as well as many other species of
birds. Reptiles, amphibians, and mammals (including Bobcats and Red Fox as well
as more common species) are also present.

The impact this facility has had on our community is far reaching. Almost
every child in our area has been touched by educational programs presented by
Mona Rutger, owner of BTTW. She not only teaches the children about the
animals but also gently teaches environmental concepts like habitat preservation
and restoration, litter prevention, wise use of pesticides, etc. Her
rehabilitation work allows many animals to be returned to the wild, but Mona feels
that the greatest service does for Ohio's wildlife is shaping the attitudes of
the young so that they will make good environmental decisions in the future.

Back to the Wild, like all animal rehabilitators, receives no state or
federal funding and relies solely on donations to continue its work.

Directions, from _http://backtothewild.org/_ (http://backtothewild.org/)
The center is located east of Castalia, Ohio at 4504 Bardshar Road. The
center is about three miles south of the State Route 2 and State Route 101
intersection. Take SR 101 south about one mile to the intersection with Bardshar
Road. Go south (left) on Bardshar one and a half miles to the center.
Castalia is about five miles southwest of Sandusky, Ohio.
