This morning I took advantage of the cool weather and did nest box
maintenance. As I headed home I made a quick stop at Hoover Meadows where I checked
the pine grove for red-breasted nuthatches. No nut hatches but a nice flurry of
warblers. This included American redstart (9), Nashville (4), ovenbird (2),
Wilson's (2), Tennessee (4), Orange-crowned (1) and golden-winged (1). As I
returned to the car I heard the calls and looked up at 2 circling
red-shouldered hawks. The final observation was an olive-sided flycatcher.
