I had a white-winged dove Saturday morning (9/15) on the Ottawa Refuge driving tour. It was almost at the end of the route, just east of where the gate is. This area is known as Vehler Road. The bird was originally on the wires and briefly flew down to the rocks just south of the canal. Another car of birders pulled up and I let them know about the bird and we proceeded to scan the rocks for the bird. All of the doves in that area got up and flew, circling before landing on the back side of some willow shrubs just out of site. The bird was east to pick out in flight. I hung around for a while and was not able to relocate it. This was around 9:30. I checked back later in the afternoon and again this morning. There are tons of doves in the area, but I was unable to relocate the white-winged. If you're in the are you may want to scan the wires. Do not go beyond the gate as it is a closed area.

Also on the drive there was a male yellow-headed blackbird that some birder had in their scope. I also had an American avocet and 3 long-billed dowitchers.
