As previously reported, both a red phalarope and two red-necked phalaropes
were easily seen near Pelican Island.  Also present there were a couple of
short-billed dowitchers, at least one greater yellowlegs and a few lesser
yellowlegs, and three Caspian terns.

Highlights from the boardwalk were at least three American golden plovers
and four buff-breasted sandpipers.  A couple of blue-winged teal were there
also, along with the usual assortment of ring-bill gulls, great egrets,
double-crested cormorants, and many Canada geese.

For those wondering about how to get to the Pelican Island location, here's
my attempt at directions:  park along the road near the gate to the East
Shore Yacht (this is just north of Harlem Rd on the west side of Sunbury
Rd).  Inside the gate, find the abandoned road (more like a path), which is
to the right.  (Don't bother with the gravel road; it just goes to the real
yacht club.)  Proceed along the abandoned road for a several minute walk
until you see many, many white plastic sleeves protecting plants (pine
trees?) in fields to the right.  Near the end of this forest of white
cylinders, take the obvious path to the left down to the mudflats.  The
inlet where the phalaropes are hanging around is out several hundred yards
pretty much dead ahead.
