I was unable to go along with our local group's birding trip today, but
just got a mid-day report via Brad Sparks.
At Sheldon Marsh, 13-14 warbler species were found shortly after dawn,
along with four vireo spp. Fifteen shorebird species were found shortly
thereafter along the old Cedar Pt chaussee, mostly along the northern
portion. They included:
        8 Hudsonian godwits
        red knot
        an amazing 25 western sandpipers
        Baird's SP
Also present was a snowy egret, 100+ Forster's and fewer common terns,
and an early eared grebe (see Doug Overacker's report from BCSP of this
morning). This site--especially the east side lately--can be dynamite
with low water (depends mainly on wind this time of year), but is a pain
to bird; parking is on a gravel pull-off on the s. mainland end, and
it's a long walk past walls of Phragmites, with traffic whizzing by at
your elbows, to viewing spots. Please be careful! I recommend cruising
the area first to see if birds are present before going through all this.
The group is on the way to Willow Pt WA and Findlay Res #1, with maybe
a few stops in between. Will report if any significant finds.
