A new 'temperate migrant' for the backyard, an Im. Yellow-bellied Sapsucker has been pecking at my hawthorn tree. The bird, pecked away a Downy only to be pecked away by a Red-bellied moments later. Lots of white -throated sparrows today as well.

I spent yesterday morning and this morning hitting two good migrant areas along the Scioto in central Ohio (Dublin yesterday, Whittier-MarbleCliff today), hoping for some of the vanguard of the massive migrant wave washing over northern Ohio. Not much yet, although there were a few 'early ones', including
Thrushes (Robins flocks in many areas; 2 Hermits at O'Shaughnessy Dam)
Brown Creepers (1 at Dublin, another at Marble Cliff),
Kinglets (both species at several spots in Dublin and Marble Cliff)
Sparrows (lots of small flocks of White-throats; fewer of Fields; single Savannah & White-crown at Whittier) and
Warblers (many Yellow-rumps at every stop; Tennessees at Dublin Kiwanis yesterday; Nashvilles at Dublin and Whittier; Orange-crowned & Blackpoll at Marble Cliff; Black-throated Greens at several spots).

In general, there weren't a lot of birds around, and you really had to work to find them. Hopefully this will change over the next few days.
