I didn't receive any other responses to my question from other Ohio Birds
list folk, so I guess you are right. Since no one else seems to have noticed
a preponderance of black throated green warblers this fall, it must have
been a local phenomenon. My best guess is that the migrant warbler species
represented must have been affected by my being in a hemlock gorge. As far
as we know, the hemlock association and gorge's microclimate are not
significant enough to attract typical hemlock breeding species like Mohican
Gorge does. I didn't think that our forest composition would have that great
an effect on migrant species composition. This could be an interesting line
of research.
