Today 10/18 I checked some areas in Ashtabula and Trumbull Cos. First stop was Pymatuning Res. At the west end of the causeway were 55 green-winged teal, 16 lesser yellowlegs, 35 pectoral sandpipers, and 10 dunlin. The water level continues to slowly drop, and the mudflats are in good shape there. A kestrel was just north of there. Over on the PA side I had 6 snow geese. Then on to Conneaut---not much there other than green-winged teal, the hen greater scaup, 2 black-crowned night-herons, and a great black-backed gull. Mudflats are appearing in the lagoon area by the viewing platform. Waterfowl also gather there, especially after the shotguns spook them away from the harbor breakwalls. On to Ashtabula...at Lake Shore Park there were 125 d-c cormorants. The small lake next to the Ashtabula Mall held only 1 Am. wigeon. This lake is usually good for waterfowl migrants. Last stop was at Mosquito L/WA. Highlights there were: Am. black ducks, n. pintails, Am.
wigeon, 40 green-winged teal, n. shovelers, ring-necked ducks, hooded mergansers, ruddy duck, 12 great egrets, 3 bald eagles, 19 greater yellowlegs, 40 Bonaparte's gulls, e. bluebirds, yellow-rumped warblers, white-crowned sparrow, and rusty blackbirds. Later, Craig
