This is the Ohio Rare Bird Report for October 19, 2007.
Compiler: Paul Gardner. Email: [log in to unmask]

Brant: The arrival of a flock of seven must have made Bob Lane's trip
to Conneaut, Ashtabula County, on the 12th seem worthwhile.

Glossy Ibis: Michael Boyd found one at Spring Valley Wildlife Area,
Greene County, on the 14th.

Yellow Rail: Jim McCormac reports on his blog that an injured bird was
recovered from a Columbus area mall on the 12th. Rehabilitators at the
Ohio Wildlife Center are caring for it. Ethan Kistler flushed one at
Funk Bottom, Wayne County, on the 14th.

American Avocet: Jim Bowers reported seeing one on the 12th while
"circling Grand Lake St Marys", Mercer County.

Willet: Hoover Nature Preserve, Delaware County, isn't getting much
attention now, so Charlie Bombaci's report of a willet on the 13th was
most welcome.

Franklin's Gull: Jerry Cowell and John Herman found one near the dam
and spillway of the Clear Fork Reservoir, Richland County, on the 16th.
It remained on the 17th according to Su Snyder.

Connecticut Warbler: Charlie Bombaci found one while cleaning the nest
boxes at Hoover Nature Preserve, Delaware County, on the 13th.

Clay-colored Sparrow: John Habig, Jay Lehman and Dan Sanders found the
bird reported last week hanging out near the Ranger's Office near Dike
14, Cuyahoga County, on the 14th.

Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow: John Pogacnik found three at the Lorain
harbor impoundment, Lorain County, on the 13th. John Habig reported
that one was found in the short grass near the parking lot there the
next day. At Tinkers Creek State Nature Preserve, Portage County, on
the 15th, Kent Miller found at least two along Old Mill Road.

Leconte's Sparrow: Ben Frambaugh reported a tailless individual from
the Wake Robin Boardwalk, Mentor Marsh Natural Area (adjacent to
Headlands Beach SP), Lake County, on the 12th. On the 13th, John
Pogacnik found one at the Lorain impoundment, Lorain County.
Bill Whan reported that a large group of birders located five Leconte's
at Funk Wildlife Area, Wayne County, also on the 13th. Ethan Kisler
found three there the next day. Su Snyder and Kani Fenstermaker were
able to turn one up there on the 16th. Brian Zwiebel reported that the
bird at Maumee Bay State Park, Lucas County, remained on the 14th.

Brewer's Blackbird: I received a second-hand report of one at
Sandy Ridge Reservation, Lorain County, on the 13th.
