A quick run through of the major access points along the east shore of Hoover reservoir (NE of Columbus) found the first waves of migrant waterfowl flocked among the wind-whipped waves.  Best spots were above the Sunbury causeway, where lots of small flocks were out in the middle of the northern reaches of the reservoir.  Birds present included

20+ Horned grebes
2 Pied-billed grebes
++ Canada Geese
120+ Mallards
40+ Black Ducks
1 N. Shoveler
5 Green-winged Teal
6 Gadwall
4 American Wigeon
50+ Lesser Scaup
20+ Ring-necked Ducks
6 Bufflehead
6 Hooded Mergansers
20+ Ruddy Ducks
15+ Cormorants

Many of the flocks were too far away for accurate ID, so there may be more species around.  The best spots for seeing them appear to be either the eastern end of Oxbow Island or along the eastshore (just past the entrance to the Eastshore Yacht Club).  Other birds of interest included an Osprey fishing around the dam, numerous Turkey Vultures soaring along the shore (perhaps 40 in all), and several sizeable flocks of Ring-billed Gulls (totalling 300+ birds).
