This is the Ohio Rare Bird Report for October 26, 2007.
Compiler: Paul Gardner. Email: [log in to unmask]

Glossy Ibis: One was reported at Sandy Ridge Reservation,
Lorain County, on the 20th by Bret McCarty and on the 21st by
Jason Krnc.

Northern Goshawk: Bruce Glick reported one migrating over the
Toledo area on the 24th. Reports from the 19th to the 23rd at
Caesar Creek SP, Warren County, apparently relate to at least
one juvenile northern goshawk and one exceedingly unhelpful
juvenile red-shouldered hawk.

American Avocet: Rick Nirschl spotted one in the Crane Creek
estuary at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge on the 21st. On the
22nd Jay Lehman found one in the southeast corner of Rocky Fork
State Park, Highland County.

Baird's Sandpiper: Charlotte Mathena found one at the St.
Mary's Fish Hatchery, Auglaize County, on the 19th. Jill Bowers
saw it there the next day.

Black-legged Kittiwake: John Pogacnik reported a juvenile flew
by his Lake County home on the 20th.

Northern Shrike: The Black Swamp Bird Observatory banded one at
Ottawa NWR on the 22nd.

Leconte's Sparrow: Bret McCarty got his life bird at Mentor
Marsh, Lake County, on the 20th. Presumably this is the same
bird reported in prior weeks from Wake Robin Trail. Numerous
people successfully chased the flock at Funk Wildlife Area,
Wayne County, from the 20th to the 22nd. John Habiq found one
bird from the observation blind at Acton Lake, Preble County,
on the 23rd. The bird was not relocated on the 25th.
