Hi all,
I arrived at Headlands at around 7:30am. It was quite windy and the trails were very quiet. Only notable birds were hundreds of Rusty Blackbirds and an Eastern Phoebe. I was soon joined by Jim and Bret McCarty and we headed off for the breakwall. We passed the headlands crew which reported a Red Phalarope, Long-tailed Duck, 60 Dunlin, 16 Snow Buntings and Black Scoters. The Phalarope, LTDU, and Scoters were long gone since they were only flybys but the Snow Buntings were still present as well as another flock of Dunlin. We scanned the lake for a little while longer and had 4 Brant heading west. Other than that we only had Red-breasted Mergansers and Ring-necked Ducks.
I was at the north end of Mosquito Lake yesterday. There were probably over a thousand ducks off of Hoagland Blackstub Rd. I was only able to stay for a couple minutes and had American Black, Gadwall, Northern Pintail, American Wigeon, Northern Shoveler, Blue-winged Teal, Green-winged Teal, Hooded Merganser, Ruddy Duck and Mallards. It’s worth keeping an eye on this area.
