I was held near downtown Columbus for part of the morning, I visited several areas along Alum Creek as it wends its way through urban Columbus. Jeffrey Park was the first stop, and it's little conifer path had attracted a nice set of winter residents, including a Red-br. Nuthatch, Sapsucker, and 5-6 Golden-cr. kinglets.

Further south, a new bikepath runs along the creek all the way from Jeffrey down
to 3-Creeks Park. Much of this new bikepath traces the narrow Alum Creek greenbelt as it runs between urban neighborhoods and businesses. I biked all the way down down to the Oxbow area of 3-Creeks. The Oxbow area (and the old Welch brownfield just north of it) are probably the most interesting areas along this part of the path. Squeezed between freeways, warehouses, and housing developments, these two areas provide a startling contrast with their open fields, pocket marshes, and riparian forest corridor. Today found nothing terribly unusual except for many small flocks of cedar waxwings along the trail, but the area should accumulate a good variety of wintering birds.
