I thought chimney swifts were long gone but tonight we saw and heard 5
flying around Lantern Court, part of Holden Arboretum, Lake County. A nice
surprise.

We also still have at least one pair of purple finches visiting our feeders
(they've been around since early April) and I've seen a yellow-bellied
sapsucker (juvenile) several times in the last 5 days or so, climbing around
in an elm tree. Sapsuckers have apparently been regular visitors to this
tree because it's full of the horizontal lines of holes they're known for.

Although we didn't have purple finches last winter I'm starting to wonder if
the ones we're seeing will stick around -- any thoughts on the likelihood of
that?

Good birding --
