This is the Ohio Rare Bird Report for October 5, 2007.

Yellow Rail: According to the Bobolink RBA (330-763-5119), one was present at
the Melven-Troyer Farm, Richland County, on the 1st and 2nd. Ethan Kistler
passed along these directions: From Lexington take 546 south 5-6 miles and
turn right onto Woodbury Rd. Continue to the 2nd crossroad which is Algire
Rd. The Farm is located at the SW Corner of this crossroad. Stop at house for
further directions.

Willet: The bird reported last week from the St Marys fish hatchery, Auglaise
County, was relocated on the 4th by Jill Bowers.

Baird's Sandpiper: Jay Lehman spotted two juveniles from the Wiese Road area
of the Hoover Reservoir Nature Preserve, Delaware County, on the 30th.

Red Phalarope: One was found by Larry Jeanblanc at Buck Creek State Park,
Clark County, on the 29th. It went missing for two days, but was relocated on
the 2nd. It was seen by multiple observers at least through the 4th.

Franklin's Gull: The bird at Old Field Beach, Indian Lake, Logan County, was
seen by Jay Lehman on the 30th. Frank Frick found one on the beach at Buck
Creek State Park, Clark County, on the 3rd. Brian Menker and Larry Jeanblanc
found eight there the next day.

Kirtland's Warbler: A juvenile in the shrubbery of his Wooster home rewarded
Gabe Hostetler on the 3rd.

Clay-colored Sparrow: A very nice consolation prize for Phil Chaon, who
kicked one up while searching vainly for the Red Crossbill at Dike 14,
Cleveland Lakefront, on the 2nd.

Leconte's Sparrow: Tom Kemp found one on the 30th for the Toledo Naturalists
Association field trip to Maumee Bay State Park, Lucas County.

Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow: Paula Lozano found one at Elmwood
Park/Bradstreet's Landing area, Rocky River, Cuyahoga County, on the 30th.

Red Crossbill: Craig Rieker found a juvenile male at Dike 14 on the Cleveland
lakefront on the 2nd. Photo is at www.rarebird.org.
