I hiked around this park looking for migrants. Most of Highbanks is forested ravines, but the Coyote Run Trail is the exception, wandering through fields and wood-edges, and is often the best trail here during migration. And if you take the connector trail near its end, you can walk back to the Nature Center via one of the best ravine trails (the Dripping Rock Trail), so you get a sampling of just about every habitat the park offers. Plus you wind up at the impressive feeders at the Nature Center. The birds were fairly cooperative yesterday, and the highlights of 2 hours included:

Raptors: the expected few Turkey Vultures and 1 Cooper's Hawk were livened up by migrating Sharp-shinned Hawk and Northern Harrier

Woodpeckers: lots of the residents, including 1 Pileated, but also had 2-3 sapsuckers

R-br.Nuthatch - at least 1 was still coming to the Nature Center feeders

Thrushes: fairly decent fallout, with 6-8 Swainson's and single Gray-cheeked and Hermit thrushes. Many E.Bluebirds were also flycatching around the fields. The easternmost portions of the Coyote Run trail were best.

Warblers: 9 species, with highest #s to Yellow-rumps, Magnolias, and Bl.-thr.Greens. Also had Bay-breasted, Blackpoll, Chesnut-sided, Cape Mays, Palm, Redstart

Sparrows - surprisingly few, with lots of Field Sparrows (mostly resident), but only a few White-throateds and none of the less common migrants.
