On Sunday we are doing a Big Sit at Buck Creek State Park. Our spot
looks over the north end of the lake. To reach the area from the park
office, go south on Buck Creek Lane to Old Columbus Road and turn left
(east), continue to the next road, Grant Road, and turn left (north).
Drive until you go down a fairly large hill and across a small bridge.
Soon after that you will see a white barn on the right and a gravel
drive on the left. Turn onto the gravel drive and go only about 70 yards
to a small parking area on your left. Then walk north along a mowed
trail until you pass the last three cypress trees. There you will find a
very small trail that leads to the edge of the lake. From here you have
a good look over a large area of the mudflats. This is best in the
morning when the sun would be at your back. Feel free to stop by for a
few minutes or a few hours. Last year the weather was too nice with
south winds and no migration so we had only 54 species for the day. Our
record is 62 species.
