Yesterday, I was able to get a good, long, close up view of the hummer
that I thought had no tail. It came to the one feeder that I have
close to the window (my house is built stupid, with very small and too
few windows). There is something different about this bird. It has a
very short, slightly curved bill. It does appear to have a tail, but
very short. What kept catching my attention to it was its size. I
kept saying to myself "this is a very small hummingbird" - hence the
tailless look.

I did not see much in the way of markings on the throat. Also, I did
not see any rust or rufous on the sides of the flanks, but it could of
been due to the poor light. It did not dawn on me till after the bird
flew away that I might be viewing a female Calliope. I will try to
obtain a photograph, but I have cheap junk equipment and am half
asleep from working too much, so it would not be anything good.

It appears to fly different than a RT, if that makes any sense.

There are still a couple of Ruby-throats around as well.
