A group of us saw a Lesser Black-backed Gull off the shore near Rocky River
Park this morning. Also, a small raft of all three species of Scoters
remains there, including one White-winged. Most numerous are Black Scoter.
Some Bufflehead and Ruddy Ducks are mixed in with the group. Two Great
Egrets were also seen coming from the Northwest off the lake.
Just about an hour ago, I stopped back at this area while "running errands"
and found a Great Black-backed Gull sitting on the breakwall. It was nice
to see the size comparison between this bird and the Ring-billed Gulls. The
GBBG was huge and the bird stood out from all the others - measuring about 3
times the size of the Ring-billed Gulls.
