Just a word of thanks and congratulations for all the birders who've
fanned out across the state in the last few days, reporting the
unexpected appearances of the usual southbound migrants, rare wanderers,
and those of irruptive ones from the north. An unusual number of these
birders went on speculative exploratory 'lion' missions, and--more than
'hyenas' like myself who merely followed the discoveries of
others--accepted records of their sightings will be of great value in
documenting this fall's unusual migration. I hope each of you lucky
enough to discover a rarity will report it to the Records Committee, via
its Secretary Tom Kemp, at [log in to unmask] ; for details on how to do
so, see the OOS site at
http://www.ohiobirds.org/records/documentation.php .
Hats off,
Bill Whan
