I made brief stops at these two areas this morning, hiking around the Goldenrod Trail and Thoreau Lake Trail at Blendon and the Nature Trail next to Hoover Dam. Waterfowl were sparse at both spots: Thoreau Lake did have a dozen Gadwall along with the expected Mallards & Black Ducks, while the southern reach of Hoover had 3 Horned Grebes (most visible from the Walnut St. boat ramp). Raptors were also slow, but Hoover dam did still have 12 Turkey Vultures and a Sharp-shinned Hawk. Best birds were winter irruptives. There were 2 Pine Siskins and a Purple Finch along the Goldenrod Trail, while a Red-br. Nuthatch was near the Nature Center at Blendon. The Hoover Nature trail had 2 Fox Sparrows.
